At the invitation of CASA ADENTRO, the group exhibition CHÃO will be part of the program for its 2nd edition and will be hosted by the Casa das Artes Bissaya Barreto.
The CASA ADENTRO project is inspired by the “Open House” concept, created in London in 1992 by Victoria Thornton. Currently covering more than 50 cities around the world, including Lisbon and Porto (along with Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos and Maia), the Coimbra City Council, with the support of the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra and the Penedo da Saudade/IPC Cultural Centre, organized the CASA ADENTRO 2022 event, with the same team for the 2nd edition to be held in May 2024.
The idea is simple: to bring architecture closer to the public, providing a close reading of the buildings and their history, through guided tours by volunteers and commented tours by experts and guests. Celebrating architecture is the challenge they are launching to the community, in a festive and inclusive way, through an itinerary that includes around two dozen facilities (spread over four to five circuits, of different types, eras, functions and uses, with architectural, artistic and cultural value, each occupying a special place in the city’s heritage. They also plan to hold parallel activities, as happened in 2022, which, in some way, intersect thematically with the project.
The CHÃO exhibition will open on May 4 at 7pm at the Casa das Artes Bissaya Barreto in Coimbra.
This house aims to provide a democratic space for multidisciplinary artistic expression and cultural access for all. With various presentation spaces, it hosts shows, exhibitions, installations, performances, talks, training sessions, artist residencies and multidisciplinary markets. In close liaison with the community, CABB has collaborated with various local associations and institutions whose mission also involves disseminating the artistic practices of the city of Coimbra.
