“This piece and He is an adventurer, an explorer. Nenhuma saudade form a sort of diptych, engaging in a dialogue with each other, though they can also stand alone. They attempt to illustrate gender roles, particularly through the main characters, and although I envision their stories as separate, they still create a bit of a cohesive puzzle. He is a free spirit, a traveler, a sailor. She is a housewife, a warrior, an activist. Aesthetically, they are inspired by the azulejos, the blue Portuguese tiles. The elements surrounding the main characters connect and tell their own stories of separation, love, identity, and saudade.”
