I keep in me all the evidence of having ever lived. But there is one permanent uncertainty that worries me every day. That of the time that passes and that wears away each file on this disk of mine. This eccentric machine that seems to have a life of its own and already seems to be the essence of my place. I run my hand over the infinitude of folders. There are gaps, empty spaces. They are bridges over memories that I’m not sure ever existed.”

In this exhibition, Catarina guides us through a thread of thought and drawing, where memories are built as if they were architectural drawings, creating rhythmic cities of stored memories, sometimes engraved in stone.

BIOGRAPHY

Catarina Paulo is a designer and illustrator. She graduated in Graphic Design and, over the last few years, has worked in design and advertising agencies. She married Design, but her heart was eventually won over by the more romantic side of illustration. She has collaborated on various projects, publications, comic strips, solo and group exhibitions.

In her work she tries to explore experiences and emotions. In illustration she has found the perfect medium to express them. Graphically, Catarina’s work is based on textures, a reduced color palette, simple shapes and strong messages. To complement all this, she has added a differentiating layer, the sewing thread. In her pieces, this thread helps to complement and create a narrative line, not only by running through the paper but also by coming out of that medium and taking on a life of its own.
