Cocktail de Camarão – Joana Dornellas and Ana Garcia Maia
Joana Dornellas lives in Lisbon, where she balances family life, a full-time job and her passion for art. After years of believing she had no talent, she overcame her insecurities and started painting. Since then, her works of art have become an expression free of pressure, with an authentic and relaxed nature that makes them so appealing.
Flowers are her theme of choice: they bring her joy, are simple, colorful and gracefully embrace her imperfections. Recently, Joana has ventured into still life and meal scenes, inviting us to observe the world in a light and uncomplicated way.
Ana Garcia Maia, born in 1973 and based in Lisbon, is a ceramic artist with a background in Marketing and Advertising.
After a few years working in the field, she lived in Brazil where she was able to explore more creative areas that had always interested her. On her return to Lisbon after a year of experimental ceramics, she attended the ceramics course at Ar.co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual for three years and, in parallel, more technical training at Cencal – Centro de formação profissional para a indústria cerâmica.
She works essentially with porcelain, a material that fascinates her both for it slightness and delicacy as well as the strength and luminosity it transmits. She finds in this duality a parallel with the beauty of the feminine universe. By working with fragility, the creative process becomes a delicate balance between control and letting go of ideas. Just as life is
beautiful and fragile.
