Woolen – Bárbara R.
Bárbara R. is a communication designer and illustrator.
She has a degree in Communication Design from ESAD Matosinhos and did an Erasmus at ESA Lorient (France). Subsequently, she completed a professional photography course at IPF Porto and a few years later a master’s degree in Illustration at ESAG.
Bárbara worked in some companies in Portugal, France and Canada. She was co-founder of Feia – Associação de Illustrator and participated in several individual and collective exhibitions as well as several workshops.
She was part of the organization committee of the 8th and 9th Encontros de Ilustração de S. João da Madeira where she was also in charge of the entire visual identity of the event. In 2017, she self-published the book “O Sol da Sra. Azul”. She is co-founder of the social business “Iolo” and a member of the “Portugal Manual”.
Bárbara frequently participates in illustration fairs and gives classes and workshops. She was the creator and coordinator and teacher of the Illustration course at the Lisbon School of Design in Porto.
She collaborates regularly with the magazines “Notícias Magazine” and “Evasões”.
Her works always have a manual and analogue basis and works whenever possible with paper, screenprinting, engraving and has now returned to work with yarn and clay and to weave and model illustrations.
Books and travel were always present in her life. She grew up surrounded by greenery, with mountains close by and the sea beside it. Bárbara has lived in several places and at this moment she returned to Porto, the city that has always filled her heart and where she is dreaming up projects for the future!
