The individual exhibition, SEM PEDIR LICENÇA (WITHOUT ASKING PERMISSION) de Clara Não, will open on April 11, from 6 pm. to 8.30 pm.
The exhibition will run until May 3 and the admission is free.

“As women, we spend our lives asking permission to live, to not be bothered, even when we are the ones being bothered. We apologize when we’ve been stepped on. We apologize to the person who is blocking our path. We apologize when our existence takes up space. It’s about time we leave this behavior behind and live without asking permission.
Sit at the table with the people who are deciding for you.
Share your informed opinion.
Call out anyone who interrupts you.
Speak up when confronted with injustices.
Without asking permission.
This exhibition is much more than just illustrations and thoughts on the subject: it’s an immersive installation that reflects on itself and makes you think about the way we live in society.”

Clara Não

BIOGRAPHY

Clara Não is an illustrator based in Portugal, between Porto and Lisbon city. She has a BA in Communication Design, by the Fine Arts College of Porto; and on her third year of course, Clara studied, thanks to the Erasmus program, at the Willem de Kooning Academie, in Rotterdam. There, she focus her studies in Illustration and Creative Writing. Later on, she finished her MA in Drawing and Printing Technics, researching the fabular relationship between Drawing and Writing.

Her illustrations and texts stand out by their irreverence and irony, using them to reclaim equality, deconstruct social tabus and explore personal experiences.
In 2019, Clara launched her first book, published by Ideias de Ler, entitled “Miga, esquece lá isso! — Como transformar problemas em risadas de amor-próprio” (Something like “Gurl, let it go! — How to transform problems into laughs of self-love”). It was the national bestseller for several weeks.

Between 2019 and 2021, Não wrote a mensal column for Jornal Gerador. Since 2022, Clara has been writing opinion articles weekly for Jornal Expresso.

In her spare time, she sings Britney.
