It’s as if time freezes for a minute when we’re sitting at the table. From a quick breakfast at home to a hearty dinner with the family in a restaurant. It’s an ode to the routine of meals, to the small utilitarian objects and brands that have always been with us, and which we often don’t even notice. Teacups, grandma’s plates, flower vases, teapots and coffee pots are the main characters in these very Portuguese stories. In a carefree parallelism between the tables and the drawings, patterns and strong colors emerge, in thick, seemingly clumsy brush strokes, where Joana Dornellas eternalizes life’s small, beautiful pleasures.
BIOGRAPHY
Joana Dornellas lives in Lisbon, where she balances family life, a full-time job and her passion for art. After years of believing she had no talent, she overcame her insecurities and started painting. Since then, her works of art have become an expression free of pressure, with an authentic and relaxed nature that makes them so appealing.
Flowers are her theme of choice: they bring her joy, are simple, colorful and gracefully embrace her imperfections. Recently, Joana has ventured into still life and meal scenes, inviting us to observe the world in a light and uncomplicated way.
